The Hohner Pokerwork returns to the UK market in 2025!

The new D/G Hohner Pokerwork made for Hobgoblin Music features the versatile 'Anahata' layout. This is a 4th button Low G Scale layout that was developed by the melodeon player Anahata and offers a variety of improvements over the 3rd button start system that has been popular for most of the 20th century. By moving to a 4th button start you lose the top notes on a traditional 3rd button, but gain accidentals and a full G scale down to an octave below the usual starting G, the lowest note on a fiddle.

The main benefit of this system is a more efficient use of the available buttons on the treble end by removing duplicate and very high notes that are less often used. The extended lower G scale allows for greater musical flexibility, and along with the accidentals opens up repertoire on the D/G melodeon that on another system would be unplayable without fudging the tune.

Overall, it is an excellent system making good use of the standard 21 buttons of a D/G melodeon whilst retaining enough similarities to the 3rd button system to make the transition to it straightforward.
